ब्लू नवाब तितली (Blue Nawab butterfly ) भारत की सबसे सुंदर और दुर्लभ तितलियों में से एक मानी जाती है। यह मुख्य रूप से पश्चिमी घाट, असम और पश्चिम बंगाल के घने जंगलों में दिखाई देती है। इसकी सबसे रोचक बात इसका जीवन चक्र है, जिसमें एक छोटा सा अंडा धीरे धीरे रंगीन तितली में बदल जाता है।
मादा तितली पत्तियों पर अंडे देती है। लगभग चार दिनों बाद इनमें से छोटी इल्लियाँ निकलती हैं, जो सबसे पहले अपने अंडे के खोल को ही खा जाती हैं। शुरुआत में उनका रंग सुनहरा भूरा होता है, लेकिन कुछ ही दिनों में वे हरी हो जाती हैं ताकि पत्तियों के बीच आसानी से छिप सकें। ये इल्लियाँ पत्तियों को खाकर तेजी से बढ़ती हैं और बढ़ने के साथ कई बार अपनी त्वचा बदलती हैं।
कुछ समय बाद इल्ली रेशम जैसा सहारा बनाकर प्यूपा में बदल जाती है। यह अवस्था लगभग दस से ग्यारह दिनों तक रहती है। फिर एक दिन प्यूपा का खोल टूटता है और उसमें से एक सुंदर ब्लू नवाब तितली बाहर निकलती है। अपने पंख फैलाकर सूखाने के बाद यह पहली बार उड़ान भरती है। यह पूरा रूपांतरण प्रकृति के सबसे अद्भुत परिवर्तनों में से एक माना जाता है।
